Snack Time

The girls are settled in. They had a good night's sleep, a big breakfast, did a lot of exploring and playing and then came the nap. Now it's snack time.

I'm so glad I decided to bring the other two sisters inside with Tegan. Hopefully they will be taking advantage of the enclosed porch when the weather turns, which it looks like might happen next week.

1. Snow's coming up here...

Snow showers probably no accumulation…just in time for Halloween. Tuesday evening’s weather looks cold and wet putting a ‘damper’ on the driveway wine and beer bar with neighbors while we pass out treats.

Oh well, October Michigan weather.

2. The Halloween weather forecast is pretty good for this part of Michigan

There hasn't been any Halloween activity in the neighborhood for the past few years. Several local places have 'trunk or treat' parties, which are probably much safer.

I probably should buy a bag of something I like, just in case. I'm not sure what time Tegan's new mom will be here so I might have to keep the lights on.

3. We're expecting 4 mornings below freezing starting Tuesday, but highs around 50.

I’ve gathered up my garden containers and tucked them in beside the deck with a generous mulch of fallen leaves. Thank you, trees! Moving anything that’s not a plant off the trunk under the sunny afternoon window to make room for a couple of pots of aloes in my library/study/sewing room.

Last hummingbird sighting was in the 17th, taken down all but one feeder. They’ve all been scrubbed and stashed in a box for next year. This has been a glorious year for birds on the mountain!

Going to the market today for 12 pounds of apples so I can make apple butter and applesauce during the freezing mornings. 98 cents a pound for organic honey crisp apples this week. If I can find some crisp red-skinned apples, I’ll make some spiced apple rings, too.

DH made a lovely beef stew last night, and I’m pretty sure there’s a big pot of chili in the near future near me.
Hope we all stay warm.
