I hope this link brings up the picture.
This Swiss made feeder is a PITA. Very $$ and the holes that distribute the seed are too small to allow the seeds to enter the feeding tray.
The first bag of food I bought had big chunks of corn and whole peanuts. Would not go thru the holes. The next one has Safflower seeds and they block the holes also plus the rainproof claim is baloney.
I read the reviews and all the negative reviews mentioned the "too small" distribution holes.
Since it was a gift, I can't complain but I've checked about all the bird food suppliers and cannot find food that does not contain large pieces of food.
If you have ever faced this, do you have a suggestion about what food I can but that will flow thru these small distribution holes?
No way I can return it, and Amazon will not let me leave a review because I'm not a member or the buyer.
Help, this is costing me too much money. I need help!
The company is Swissinng Solutions AG, Their web page is swissinno.com. The feeder is titled Smart Birds and the feeder has a cap., 2 section hopper and a removable catch tray. Help before I go broke buying bird seed. Thanks

(106,365 posts)If you are not a Prime member, Amazon might not let you leave a review, but that does not prevent you from asking/posting a question (there is an area just above the reviews to do so). Quite often the seller or manufacturer will answer those and if not, another buyer might.
I can't imagine that millet seed would not pass through even the smallest holes?

(6,853 posts)If you have a Wild Birds Unlimited near you, they're a great resource for fresh seed. I used to get a lot of chickadees and yellow finches at my feeders with these seeds. And they're small enough that they won't clog your feeder up.

(8,013 posts)They love it, just keep it dry, like under an eve or overhanging corner.
Dont overfill it or it can rot if it gets wet.

(194 posts)Looks like it is designed for small birds so look for finch blends; you can find them online or at any store that sells pet foods.
If you have squirrels; they will destoy anything not made of metal and glass.

(9,194 posts)I try to keep pesky squirrels away as they damage, my fruit, nuts and vegetable crops, so safflower is not their forte. The above store also has hot pepper seeds which do not affect birds but squirrels run like crazy.

(25,267 posts)We use a plain old feeder that has plexiglass sides. We get a wide variety of birds. But we have to bring in the feeder at night or remove the plexiglass or raccoons will destroy the feeder.
You will have to buy smaller type seed for your feeder but you won't get the variety of birds.
I would just look for a cheap bird feeder with plexiglass sides that you can slide up or down depending on the size of the seed.

(12,831 posts)or otherwise 'modify' the damned thing? (it's not working now - what's to lose?)
In descending order (of utility and availability) a drill and bit, a file (or sandpaper), or a penknife.
And don't worry about delivering too much food/seed - because rest assured that the damned birds are going to toss it around and waste a lot of it anyway. (and usually somebody will eventually get to what goes on the ground - mostly)

Your local hardware store will have them. DON'T BUY ONE. I'll bet you have friends who will have one.
If they are craft people, they will likely have one.

(17,757 posts)The only problem we have with them is squirrels. It would be a pretty poor design that didn't accept a variety of feeds.

(25,452 posts)We have a goldfinch feeder that uses Nyger seed. The seeds are similar in size and shape to caraway seeds - long and thin.

(18,153 posts)The product description states "For all types of seed mix, sunflower seed and peanut bites" - note "peanut bites" not whole peanuts.
But safflower seeds should work, they are generally smaller than whole sunflower seeds. There are supposed to be two sections for different sizes of food. Sounds like the section for smaller feed needs millet and thistle (Niger) seed as others have mentioned.
I wonder if you got a product that incorrectly had both sections for smaller seed?
In any case I would definitely contact the company.
There are many places to buy better and more variety of seeds. Look for a farm supply store near you if all else fails. (google "tack and feed store near (wherever you are)" ).
