Related: About this forumThere was not an outdoor kidcat in sight, this morning. There was a big deer
I thought it was weird I didn't get swarmed when I entered the porch. Instead I saw the deer walked right by the window. I walked around to fill the bowls, thinking the sound would bring them running. Nope.
When I opened the porch door to go back inside, Rhys came out of hiding, followed by Rhian. So far, that's it.
I'll keep checking but this is the weirdest morning. Strangely, I woke up in full anxiety mode, this morning, and I'm still fighting to tamp it down.

The kittens seem nervous.
I'll just keep checking the porch and the food stations.

(27,291 posts)Dot and Pembroke. They are on the deck. The only bowl on the side of the house that's been touched was the one Spooky was at. She's the only adult I've seen, this morning.
I still haven't seen Dylan or Snowdon. I have to buy some litter and carpet pulling tools (big project, this weekend) and will keep an eye out for any others.
I do wonder if a big herd of deer came though. I'll look for tracks, later.

(92,732 posts)Were seriously spooked by the deer, one or more will do. I've seen different interactions between deer and cats, some cats hiss at the deer and the freak and run off or the cat(s) run to a safe location and observe. A deer will chase a small animal if it decides to either play chase or seriously neutralizing a threat. I have seen these things all take place between deer and cats.
They will all come out of hiding, some will recognize the security your place affords them and keep that info on their minds.
Your going out and acting normal helps them recover from their fears. You were probably subconsciously sensing that the cats were stressing, they may have been telepathically trying to get your attention and that's why your were anxious when you awoke. They are dialed in to you and your role as protector. I always know when one of my cats is in a situation where they are in possible danger, sentient beings share that trait, it's a natural phenomenon.
The kitties have learned a lesson about bigger animals but you might do best by just going about things as usual so they can see that everything is okay and they can go about growing and being cute. Later in the day they will all have checked in.

(27,291 posts)No sign of any adult since Spooky headed back across the street. The food still is pretty much untouched. I'm going to bring the bowls from the deck to the porch.
