that are prevalent today, especially those involving spending lots of money

The British series Supersizers on YouTube. Two people attempt to live a week eating exactly as they would have ( if they were relatively well off, not peasants) in past eras. And they dress the part. Back when the London water was deadly. So they drink ale and wine all day. Almost no green vegetables. Some of the meals are outrageous. They get medically evaluated before and after. Pretty funny stuff. The woman, Sue, reappears in the Great British Baking Show
