We've been on a bit of a Tudor kick around here lately (mr beac & I are history documentary addicts)

and I found an interesting website on Anne Boylen while trolling the series of tubes:

Right now, they have an advent calendar up that you can click to get a daily Tudor history fact: http://www.theanneboleynfiles.com/advent2011/

I learned "Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived" from her at a young age--- probably the cause of my lifelong phobia about beheading! I always have to leave the room during execution scenes in any Tudor doc or film of which there are, of course, many. I try to think of it as light exercise!

Its really an excellent series. Yeah, Henry is WAY too hot because in reality he wasn't a stud anymore at 45. However I can live with minor inconsistencies.

Can't wait to see how they portray Anne of Cleves.

I haven't watched anything from it yet (our "kick" involved documentaries rented from the liibrary and stuff on YouTube.)

I've heard it's well-done, though mr. beac bristles at Henry VIII being portrayed by a slim brunette actor as Henry was probably edging towards 300 in his twenties and was flame-haired. I completely understand why the TV show made the change and am guessing that none of the wives and other people were as pretty and handsome as the actors that usually play them--- even in "documentaries."

6. The entire idea of a slim dark haired Henry in his mid-40's is a hoot....but the actor is really hot

so the historian in me just shuts up. At least Catherine of Aragon was relatively plain-apparently most everyone else in the Tudor court was gorgeous.

I know its schlock teevee but its better than most of what we have access to here and it has pretty much followed English history IIRC.

I had no idea there was anything on YouTube related to the Tudors. Thanks for the hint-I'll check it out when I have the time.
