Hillary talks about Nancy Reagan's AIDS activism at funeral! What the F*CK?
That is what I am hearing, she said this at the funeral.
Ugh
And now she is tweeting an apology.
Personally I think she knew what she was saying and now she is pulling back because she was called out.

(15,535 posts)"I think that she deserves credit for opening up the AIDS money," historian Allida Black told PBS in 2011, saying that along with Koop the first lady pressed the president and the secretary of health and human services to allocate research funding to HIV/AIDS issues.
"But," Black continued, "I could never say that without saying they never would have waited this long" if not for the perception that the disease was a problem for gay men.
In the same PBS segment, Nancy's son, Ron Reagan, likewise portrays his mother as an important progressive force on AIDS issues inside the Reagan administration.
Just sayin' ...

(15,535 posts)attribute nefarious motives to everything that Hillary says and does, there is literally nothing I can do that will change that.
Buh-bye.

Nevertheless, how utterly tone deaf. Not thinking that family and the 1% may know this, but we peons don't.

(66,246 posts)She used her fame and the paparazzi that surrounded her to show that people with AIDS could be touched and hugged and treated as suffering humans rather than pariahs. She did the same for the cause of landmine clearance.
Yes, Di had real flaws and limitations, and she was self-absorbed, immature, and desperate for attention, but she had a good heart and tried to use her fame to spotlight worthy causes. She was ill-used by her husband and his family.
Meanwhile, airhead clotheshorse Nancy Reagan promoted the disastrous "Just Say No" campaign as a proper substitute for a sane, effective drug policy.

I remember at the time thinking "Good, did not know that"
I think most people were ignorant about it back then.

(25,966 posts)There's absolutely no Democratic constituency that is going to see that and be impressed. But there's very definitely a Democratic constituency that sees it and is fucking repulsed by it.

Most of those people dont know who Kissinger is, probably, and also dont care either way about the HIV issue.
It is tough to understand, what I do know is as bad as she is sometimes, she will get my vote if nominated.

(25,966 posts)All the Very Serious People of the political establishment have been flogging that nonsense theory for decades.
What the Establishment likes to call "moderates" are much more accurately described as "low information voters." So, yes, these people are unlikely to know who Kissinger is. I've never met a Democrat in my life who knew who Kissinger was, and didn't hate him.
