President Obama is going to declare the first national monument recognizing the LGBT community and its contributions in the United States. It will be centered near the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York which was central to the gay liberation movement in the 1960s. National Park Service director Jonathan B. Jarvis and Rep. Jerrold Nadler will be on hand for a listening session on May 9 to hear feedback on the proposal. Obama is ready to designate the area as part of the National Park Service as soon as next month.
