(18,318 posts)The sport is so new, and growing so fast that formalized rules have yet to be established. I would try it myself if I could hobble around adequately! Women are exceptionally good at it. You have to be in shape, and an error in safety protocols will disqualify you.
Instead of fearing the shooting culture and slapping on a haphazard, mean-spirited label, you might realize that millions of fellow Americans engage in this and other sports without harm to anyone.
I bet the Orlando murderer never competed in this sport.

(84,494 posts)I mean, who even talks like this in civilian life - "mission-adaptable weapon system" - who says "mission-adaptable" in ordinary life? You hear that at the grocery store? Does the principal at your kids' school (or yours) describe programs that way? Do other commercials for anything from Cialis to toilet paper with the cartoon bears with no butt holes - do they talk that way? This is meant for the military. Including the lingo. No EARTHLY reason why this should be available or viewable in a civilian market. I'm sorry - when I buy anything with attachments, whether it's a screwdriver set or vacuum cleaner, do I even think "oh, I need this - it's 'mission-adaptable'!"? And it's not even marketed with those words. This is MILITARY. It has NO PLACE in the civilian market.
This gun is meant for warfare. For the Seal Team 6 types, operating in hot war zones.
This gun is absolutely positively NOT meant for civilian use!!! CRIMINY - even one of the model's designers has said so! So why can civilians see this? Besides to plant seeds and create a need or desire for it. Playing to the emotions of the gullible and already-paranoid.
That kind of thing will NEVER end well.

(6,782 posts)The ad doesn't distinguish between the full-auto and the semi-auto civilian version. Thus it is being marketed to military, LEO, and the general public.

(49,445 posts)Or, if you're a security company or law enforcement looking for a rifle.
Self-defense is not a contest with rules and referees. If, God forbid, I'm ever in a situation where i have to pull a trigger to protect me and mine, I want something as effective as possible. I want expanding bullets, dependability, optics, ergonomics, a big and reliable magazine, weapon-mounted flashlights, etc.
Process marches on. Your side seems to think you can lock gun technology back to 1912 or something, but you really can't.
Even if semi-automatic rifles were banned as a class, you would see the exact same features and abilities in lever-action and pump-action rifles. Why? Because the features you loathe simply work better, at least a little, than what they replaced.
Black finishes reduce glare and product steel. Black plastic is weather proof and allows more variety in shapes & sizes. Pistol grips improve handling. Folding stocks make guns easier to store and transport. Telescoping socks makes adjusting for different clothing or people easy. Gun-mounted flashlights make target identification easier and safer. Gun-mounted laser sights make shooting faster.
These will still exist, whether you want them to or not.

(14,559 posts)The gypsum plugs the hole in the end of the bullet and it acts like FMJ, going through walls and wife and kids. This is the worst possible home defense gun available.

(15,396 posts)Lots of fun to shoot 3 gun competitions but you'd better be independently wealthy, Sponsored, or Reload. Otherwise you'll go broke in practice ammo alone.
Then you have travel expenses, equipment....it's an expensive hobby, I know a couple of guys that travel the 3 gun circuit. They actually bought a Ford Expedition dedicated for their matches. It's decked out in the back completely with storage compartments for their firearms, apparel, magazines, backup equipment and parts. Then the ammo...

(2,717 posts)It appears to me, flaming lib, that this is one member of America's 'Unorganized Militia', in self training using a sig mcx assault rifle to assault a position or platoon of tyrannical United States soldiers, or marines, swabbies or flyboys, somewhere somewhen they turn tyrannical.
He's polishing his assault skills so he can break the back of the tyranny which is so likely to happen under tyrannical democrat presidents & legislatures, just like the NRA tells them so it must be true.
Ordinary handguns and conventional rifles are of little use when the US Army can fire 600 rounds per minute at your unorganized position, so to come out victorious in the battle against tyranny the unorganized militia must have superior firepower, and foremost of all - KNOW HOW TO USE IT.
The Unorganized Militia, not just an adventure, an assault on tyranny

(2,375 posts)Yet just a very small percentage of these guns are actually used to kill humans, and nearly always by members of society with criminal records. Of course the pro-restriction side needs to invoke the 'designed for' "argument" to distract from the 'actually used for' reality, while concealing who is committing the violence.
Integrity........not the pro-restriction sides strong suit.
