(5,046 posts)Just goes to show what happens when people that know very little about the subject at hand, consider themselves "expert" and attempt to lord over the rest of us, that DO understand, and are ignored..
After all it is a modular system..
Keep it up, after all it is an election year, with gun control all over the news, what do we have too loose?

(6,185 posts)... and yes, our "friends" here and in the press will call it a "loophole".
Some will probably demand immediate imprisonment of the maker of the video.
After all, Due Process is just another NRA talking point and one of our control "fans", who must be a real "constitutional scholar", has already demanded getting rid of it for public safety reasons.

(49,445 posts)California bans semi-automatic rifles that have detachable magazines.
However, a rifle that has a magazine that requires a tool to remove has a fixed magazine, which is legal.
A pointy object is considered a tool, so installing a magazine catch that requires, say, the tip of a loaded rifle cartridge to depress the magazine release turns the rifle into a fixed-magazine gun, and legal.
Californians were creating bullet buttons, magnets pointy on one side and smooth on the other, which would stick to the magazine catch and in effect turn the "tool required" magazine catch back into a manually-operated catch while the magnet was attached.
The California Assembly changes the law so that bullet buttons are banned.
Californians then figure out how to make their AR-15s hinge open for field stopping really really fast, and to make the "tool required" magazine catch work manually only when the AR-15 is hinged open.
So now too quickly unload and reload their AR-15s they simply yank on a piece of paracord, let the rifle hinge open a little, press the "tool required" magazine catch with their hand, let the magazine drop out, slam the rifle closed again, and slap in a fresh magazine.
Do I have this right?
Wow, I'm sure Californians are much safer now.
I'm waiting to here how this is an important step forward for gun safety.

(688 posts)Well, let's see....it will inconvenience millions of law-abiding gun owners. Anyone wishing to use an AR-style rifle for unlawful purposes will simply use one purchased out of state of course, along with the normal capacity magazines that they can also purchase out of state.
