She's just a student, trying to study for her exams in the face of domestic terrorism.
Why does it upset some folks so much to see women getting an education?

I quickly read through the comments, expecting to see an outpouring of disapproval, but my eyes locked on one of the top-rated comments: Ha Ha. He should have raped her first.
Is "the whole point of wearing the dildo" to get "attention" like these threats?

It was clearly a hostile environment and the owners took it seriously. I've worked for 40 years and seen all kinds of ugly situations, the rules are fair, firm and equal. Work space is productive without unnecessary stress.

(6,498 posts)As near as I can tell, your only on-topic comment here in this thread was the following:
Her dildo should be concealed just like the weapons. Is she 21, had a background check, paid the fees and had the required training to carry that concealed dildo?
I believe that I responded to your victim blaming.
You have made no other points regarding the topic under discussion here.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)And it is nowhere close to victim blaming. As to my other posts, I have to keep asking it as you appear to be ignoring the DU rules on copyrights that I have posted excerpts of and links to. You have at least 4 OPs running that flagrantly violate the DU four paragraph rule. I have pointed it out graciously so you could edit your posts. You fail to take my advice or even respond. All I ask is you please follow the DU rules and not disrespect the administrators and owners. Like I said that could be seen as a TOS violation.
stone space
(6,498 posts)You know that I am unable to even reply, due to the fact that such discussions of forum moderation are in direct violation of DU's TOS.
Don't post messages about site rules, enforcement, juries, hosts, administration, alerts, alerters, removed posts, appeals, locked threads, or anything else related to how this website is moderated (except in the Ask the Administrators forum).
Why we have this rule: The purpose of Democratic Underground is to discuss politics, issues, and current events. Open discussion of how the website is run tends to distract from our core purpose.
Even with this reply to you, I risk being hidden for violation of TOS.
That is why your constant spammy meta-baiting is annoying. You do it, in violation of TOS, knowing full well that I can have my post hidden even for discussing your disappointments regarding DU's moderation system.
If you feel that a post violates TOS, then your remedy is to alert on the post in question, not to whine repeatedly about your disappointments over jury decisions that might not go your way.
Attempting to bait others with repeated spam into meta discussions regarding forum moderation decisions is inappropriate.
Do not expect me to reply to your meta-bating spam in the future.
I am in direct violation of TOS for even replying to your meta-baiting here in this post.
NOTE TO JURORS: Please note the meta-baiting spam listed below, the sheer volume of which has made it necessary for me to reply to the meta-bating in this one single post, even if it is in direct violation of DU's TOS.

(16,974 posts)To simplify compliance and enforcement of copyrights here on Democratic Underground, we ask that excerpts from other sources posted on Democratic Underground be limited to a maximum of four paragraphs, and we ask that the source of the content be clearly identified. Those who make a good-faith effort to respect the rights of copyright holders are unlikely to have any problems. But individuals who willfully and habitually infringe on others' copyrights risk being in violation of our Terms of Service.
Democratic Underground believes we have an ethical responsibility to respect the rights of copyright holders. For this reason, we strongly encourage our members to refrain from violating copyrights when posting here, and we make a good-faith effort to deal with copyright violations posted on our site when we are aware of them. However, please be aware that as a matter of law, individuals who infringe on copyrights in their postings on this site or elsewhere can be held individually responsible for copyright violations they post. Democratic Underground does not necessarily have a legal responsibility for the things members post on this website.

As she drove through Austin one day last October, she says she heard a pundit on the radio say that Americans should just learn to live with these acts of violence and brace for them to happen. The thought that immediately popped into her head? What a bunch of dildos. What a dildo-like response."
Youre supposed to be here to talk about difficult issues and shit. Because we live in the middle of this hotly contested gun culture, if one person is afraid to speak, there goes the free exchange of ideas, Jin says.
Lopez, a junior, tries to take those reactions with a grain of salt. But it can be hard.
Its really scary [in] the current political climate, its hard to do anything, {Lopez} said, a pale, veiny dildo hanging from her black Urban Outfitters backpack. So, at least were going out on a limb with something.

(671 posts)Has nobody caught the irony in this video? You know, the part about her not being able to protect herself with a dildo? With the implication that if she had the very item she was protesting against, she might not be dead?
Granted, the video was in poor taste, and it was probably much too graphic for college campuses of today. BUT - violence against women is pretty common, and being able to carry a firearm, or at least have one on campus, will almost certainly help to reduce the number of offenses.

(3,245 posts)Par for the course.
It's for open display of a sex toy which could trigger other people. Conceal carry means conceal. To protest, the sex toys should also be concealed.
stone space
(6,498 posts)And it doesn't look like those who participate will face disciplinary action a spokesperson for UT Austin told Refinery29 that the university supports civil displays of freedom of expression, and that it appears the planned protests qualify as "protected political speech."
http://www.refinery29.com/2016/08/120840/cocks-not-glocks-dildo-protest-college-campus
Dildos are a particularly apt implement for an anticampus carry demonstration, and not just because they share space with guns as stand-ins for human penises. Texas lawmakers have long been more scared of dildos than they are of gunsthe sale of sex toys was illegal in the state until 2008. (Thensolicitor general Ted Cruz staged a valiant court effort against the right to stimulate ones genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation, but he lost.) Its still a misdemeanor crime to openly display a dildo or other obscene material in public; the act could carry the consequence of a $500 fine.
But a UT spokesman said the schools administration considers Cocks Not Glocks a demonstration of free speech, not prurient spectacle. Students have a right to express themselves, he told the Austin American-Statesman. This appears to be protected political speech.
Jins Facebook event has attracted a fair number of haters who feel more threatened by protesters with dildos than a college student with a gun. Theres a lot of people openly expressing that they would take joy if we were assaulted or raped with our protest devices, Jin told CityLab. Theyre like, We cant wait to see them get raped by their own toys, because theyd be inviting sexual assault, and then theyll wish they had a gun. The protest just started yesterday, but it sounds like there were already a ton of dicks on the UT campus.

(19,497 posts)I suppose, then, pro-gun control ads depicting violence are snuff films.
Apparently this ad threatens women with being murdered by a gun for failing to support an agenda that will allow them to be stabbed and strangled.

If I wanted to create a defaming caricature of an opponent I couldn't have created one more accommodating. It's like a self-animating strawman.
Anybody with even an ounce of awareness would realize that pro-gun control groups have created ads with depictions of violence. To claim the ad in controversy in the OP is a snuff film/call to violence is to open gun control advocates to the same criticism and that is would be seized upon. Yet, here we find ourselves mired in just such a predictable scenario.
Surely, nobody is this ideologically blinded that they couldn't foresee this turn of events.
