Can we finally admit.. that Open Carry of Guns are a threat to the safety of the average citizen

In fact .. if you are a POC, if could cost you your life.

The more the NRA has pushed this whole idea of carrying guns keeps you safe.. the more death by guns to a degree off the chart has happened.. it puts a person in harms way..

Not only do you have the average joe citizen armed to the teeth and scared to death of his or her neighbor..but it seems to be just as prevalent in law enforcement..

Historically the NRA was formed to keep guns used by the military out of the hands of the average citizen, while protecting their 2nd amendment rights.

Just as the right tried to co-opt religion for political purposes.. they did the same with guns.

I am not opposed to guns in the least.. I was raised with them.. but having people carry in bars etc.. is nothing but asking for trouble.. because people doing open carry looking for trouble..

How many American's are gunned down in a bloody fashion - at Macy's, churches, bases, theaters, strip malls, camp sites, and especially schools.

Gun owners don't give a shit and now neither do I.

I know when I get in my car I may have another accident - still not use to the reality that I may get shot going to the mall. Easy fix though - shop on line and kill off those malls once and for all.

Not sure what that post has to do with Open Carry, when the Texas college carry is a concealed carry issue.

But ... when you've been on a long "vacation" and finally have a post that doesn't get hidden, I guess you just keep using it.

They should be OK though.

“We are strapping gigantic swinging dildos to our backpacks,” Jin said. “Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play."

“I want this movement to be taken seriously,” Lopez said. “It’s hard for the props not to overshadow the message. The Texas Legislature is trying to normalize gun culture. We’re trying to normalize sex culture."

Welcome to the group

The more the NRA has pushed this whole idea of carrying guns keeps you safe.. the more death by guns to a degree off the chart has happened.. it puts a person in harms way..
You seem to be implying a cause and effect relationship between some actions, advocacy or position which the NRA takes or makes. As I see it, this is an unproven assertion on your part as violent crime has for decades been trending lower not higher.

I am not an advocate of open carry and believe it is to be discouraged among responsible owners.

Not only do you have the average joe citizen armed to the teeth and scared to death of his or her neighbor..but it seems to be just as prevalent in law enforcement..
You imply here that many gun owners take the word of others as to a level of danger and its proximity. Sensible intelligent people will engage with neighbors and their communities in making this assessment.

I would personally encourage everyone to assess their daily routines, living quarters and habit for general safety and decide for themselves on the most effective means for remediation of risks and deficiencies.

Historically the NRA was formed to keep guns used by the military out of the hands of the average citizen, while protecting their 2nd amendment rights.
First, you're referring to the NRA as if it were a monolithic organization. It isn't. The ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) founded in 1975 is the lobbying organization which engages in advocating for or against federal, state and local legislation. I researched the founding of the historic and traditional NRA which has no relation to lobbying nor to restricting military or military style small arms from average civilians. The NRA was founded for the purpose of encouraging marksmanship and safety.

Just as the right tried to co-opt religion for political purposes.. they did the same with guns.
Those with an ax to grind will shine a light on the blade's edge such that it looks dullest, especially if their looking for you to pay for the grinding.

I'm personally against OC in urban and suburban areas. I don't advocate making it illegal.

"Carrying guns" has been a thing for decades...and is probably at its highest level now. In that time gun-related death rates have gone up, gun-related death rates have gone down...to the lowest point in years recently. Doesn't really seem to be a direct correlation, so very likely other factors matter more.

It appears that "self defense" is now the new number one reason given for owning guns, so while the percentage of people who owns guns may be trending down, the proportion who do own them seem to be more interested in having them for self-defense, including an increased desire to carry. This will effect the type of weapons purchased, and especially is causing an increase in handgun ownership.

As for open carry - generally - yes, I would rather have a carry weapon concealed. I would tend to view someone open carrying say a rifle 'out of place' with a bit more suspicion then someone who is not. Someone open carrying a handgun in a holster? Likely not quite such a big deal, but still would get a second or third glance.

The reason for open carry vary I assume...is it an attempt to normalize guns? To deter being victimized? To intimidate? To protest? Context would matter to decide whether they were looking or even asking for trouble.

Is it dangerous? Sure can be.

Eh? In 1871? Was the NRA trying to keep the Remington rolling-block rifle out of civilian hands? Do you have a citation for that?

How many folks have you seen openly carry, besides in the Newz & in a demonstration? (Google pictures Huey P. Newton Gun Club)

Doesn't matter what the NRA has done "...the more death by guns to a degree off the charts has happened..." 100% wrong (can we agree to that?)

If the "average Joe is armed to the teeth," that goes against controller/banner agitprop that gun ownership is declining. (Do keep up with your own stuff.)

Your history of the NRA says it wanted to keep military guns out of civilian hands, Where??

The Second Amendment became politicized when controller/banners wanted to, well, control and ban.

Do you know the laws regarding gun possession while drinking?

I hope your gun ownership and use is a positive experience, but we all need to keep up with the issues. Again, you do know that gun homicides have fallen drastically over the last 20+ years.

so that recruits could be better prepared to serve in the Army if drafted. Their original training program was based on European military marksmanship training programs.

They started gun clubs all over the country and sponsored rifle and pistol competitions. Their entire focus was on military style rifles.
