(3,918 posts)teacher really loved me. Once we got into the WWI timeframe, he had trouble finding a question that I didn't know the answer to. I read a lot of war books and novels at that time, so I was pretty up on who was who, geography, timelines, etc, through 1945. Boy, I wish I remembered a 1/4 of that stuff now. (Suffering CRDS, Can't Remember Dooddly Squat disease.)

I especially appreciate the lack of gratuitous insults.
Being a liberal and a "gun guy" means I get insulted a lot, accidently and intentionally. The intentional barbs bother me less of course

(7,981 posts)Were you afraid of being banned?
yagotme
(3,918 posts)My "progressive" views on firearms was looked down on by many here on this site, pre-Gungeon. Yes, I was basically threatened to be banned by a few of my posts regarding firearms. A few here came to my defense, as they knew/realized that not all Democrats are big city liberals, that some of us live in rural areas, belong to unions, vote Democrat, and hunt and shoot. What goes on in the Gungeon now would result in permanent bans back then for many of the members that post there. But, of course, you know this, and you're just trying to start an argument.
SecularMotion
(7,981 posts)The Gungeon has always been far right to the majority of DU.
I think the host of this group is too lenient toward DU members with right wing views on the gun issue.
yagotme
(3,918 posts)in your opinion that are purely RW? The gun issue is codified in the Bill of Rights, and I believe a good progressive would want those protected rights for all Americans.

(7,981 posts)We are geared towards typical liberals who also happen to enjoy owning and using firearms; however, our members come from every political ideology Libertarian, Independent, Democrat, Republican, Green, etc.

(3,918 posts)"The mission of The Liberal Gun Club is to provide a voice for gun-owning liberals and moderates in the national conversation on gun rights, gun legislation, firearms safety, and shooting sports. We serve as a national forum for all people, irrespective of their personal political beliefs, to discuss firearms ownership, firearms use, and the enjoyment of firearms-related activities free from the destructive elements of political extremism that dominate this subject on the national scale. We also actively develop and foster a variety of programs for the purpose of firearms training and firearms safety education, for both gun owners and non-gun owners."

(7,981 posts)How do interpret this statement?
What are "the destructive elements of political extremism" as it relates to firearms-related activities?

(3,918 posts)phrase here, I believe. AWB 94, they banned cosmetic features on many rifles. Had zero effect. Companies just built the same rifle, sans "objectionable" parts. Gun banners had a fit. Thought they had a lock on the AW ban. Technology surpassed them. And, it was on a national scale. Banners here are still calling for the same basic thing, if not going further. "BAN THEM ALL". And, to top it off, WJC himself stated the ban cost the Dem's seats. Destructive enough?

(3,918 posts)since '96. Federal bans and restrictions have basically done nothing but hurt our party, and if you can't see/acknowledge that, I guess we're done here. And that's on federal and state levels.
