Officers in the Clear Lake area were called to a home invasion in the 12500 block of Cooperstown near Barbizon Drive at about 11:37 p.m. Monday.
According to police at the scene, the intruder tried to trick the homeowner by telling her that he was a worker with home health care.
The homeowner didn't let the stranger inside, instead calling her son who lives down the street.
By that time, the intruder broke down the door and got into the home. When the son arrived, he shot and killed the intruder, police say.

(2,971 posts)Quite so. If he had simply been pounding on the door, shooting him would have been a criminal act.

It is an example where our laws are inadequate. The prudent reponse would be to disengage from the argument and retreat to the home. If prevented from doing so, then force would be justified.

In this case you break down someone's door, then you should expect to be met with lethal force.

(12,758 posts)of a extremely atypical home invasion. What is the relationship, and motivation, here? Otherwise ... Just deranged.

That had to have been noisy, neighbors could've heard. Cray-cray. The son was justified.
