Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumThe Biden administration will require thousands more gun dealers to run background checks on buyers
Thousands more firearms dealers across the United States will have to run background checks on buyers when selling at gun shows or other places outside brick-and-mortar stores, according to a Biden administration rule that will soon go into effect.
The rule aims to close a loophole that has allowed tens of thousands of guns to be sold every year by unlicensed dealers who dont perform background checks to ensure the potential buyer is not legally prohibited from having a firearm.
Its the administrations latest effort to combat gun violence. But in a contentious election year, its also an effort to show voters especially younger ones for whom gun violence deeply resonates that the White House is trying to stop the deaths.
This is going to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and felons, President Joe Biden said in a statement. And my administration is going to continue to do everything we possibly can to save lives. Congress needs to finish the job and pass universal background checks legislation now.
Added words that simply define what is already the case. Current rules do not limit dealer definitions to any locations.
Biden is correct, we need UBC legislation passed.

Are the databases of the 80,000+ dealers, salesmen, et al, "those listed or flagged in the DO NOT APPROVE SALE) databases" accurate in each state or combined accurately with other databases of those who should not be able to buy weapons? By what criteria? And when those databases get hacked or manipulated through fraud and exploitation of the human controllers of what may be private information, what then?
I'm not knocking the effort, mind you! Just, considering questions, since DH still receives junk mail solicitations for decade-long, deceased relatives who never before were residents at our current residential address...I guess perhaps they really have attained "everlasting digital life." BTW, I've never received a single piece from across the void of my side of deceased family members...What does that mean??? Mine went to the other place? Mine had no privilege? I have none because I'm female? JHP, I even get email that TPTB lately seem to think will need to be read and belong to my DH now. Just an example, and I'm aware USPS is only a quasi-governmental agency.

(3,816 posts)All those people that were denied an FFL because of location, or some other thing basically out of their control, are now going to have to be allowed to get an FFL, right? The government spent decades trying to reduce the number of FFL's, and now, it's going to have to be multiplied many times. After all, I can't see a reasonable judge, given that a person has to have an FFL to "engage in the business", per the new guidelines, then being denied one by ATF, over some made up arbitrary rule. Somethin's gotta give...
