PBS Newshour's Judy Woodruff auditions for Fox News with a punk remark for Obama dep campaign mgr

On the Tuesday night PBS Newshour, Judy Woodruff was interviewing Stephanie Cutter, Obama Deputy Campaign Manager, when she couldn't pass up the opportunity to perform for the rabid right and dive for right wing corporate dollars with a smart-ass remark delivered as a question.....

Woodruff asked Cutter "what is this president going to do differently to create a more robust job creation climate than what he's been able to do over the last four years, what's the answer to that? What can change?"

Cutter answered:

"I think that the two parties could come together to get some real things done in Washington. Let's not forget that the president had ... the American Jobs Act in front of Congress for a year. That would create a million jobs right now, through putting our construction workers back to work rebuilding our roads, bridges and highways, making sure our teachers can stay in classrooms, giving tax cuts to small businesses that hire.

These are good, tangible, concrete ideas that we can do to move this country forward. I think the president has often talked about this election as, you know, the voters get to decide the direction of this country.

Are they happy with the gridlock? Are they happy with the intransigence of the Republican Party, whose number-one goal over the past four years is to make sure that the president didn't get reelected?

Or are they going to send a strong message, hey, we want some progress, put progress ahead of your own politics and vote for some change in this election? And many of the pieces of the president's agenda that have been stuck in the Republican House of Representatives will move."

Woodruff, with a strait face, says: [font color="red"]"So all the blame goes on the Republicans?" [/font].. what is this, diving for more right wing, corporate dollars, Judith, or are you auditioning for a job over at Fox? This is the kind of smart-ass, pointless remark they would spit out.


Here's what I wish Cutter had said to Woodruff's smirking remark:

"Well Judy, let me be the journalist here (somebody has to be) and I'll list some events which you apparently are not aware of and I'll let you decide, but I won't put words in your mouth, I'll let you speak for yourself.


Almost as the President walked into the White House, Sen. Mitch McConnell stated that the number one priority for the GOP was to make sure that President Obama was a one term president. He was good to his word as the Republicans have set records for filibustering virtually everything the President and the Democrats have tried to do to rebuild our ecoonomy and to start a recovery from this Republican Trickle down Deregulation disaster.

Thomas Mann and Norm Ornstein wrote an oped in the Washington Post entitled: "Let's just say it: the Republicans are the Problem" in which they called the GOP "an insurgent outlier". They have published a book entitled "It's even Worse than it Looks" where-in they detail the efforts of the GOP to obstruct everything OUR President has been trying to do to help the nation.

Mike Lofgren retired, ending an almost 30 year career as a GOP Congressional Staffer, in disgust with the GOP for hyperpartisanship and actions to gain political advantage over the President even at the expense of our country.

For one case in point, when the President proposed the ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment act) the Repulicans had made it clear they were going to filibuster the bill until they got what they wanted. The president knowing that a stimulus delayed would be a stimulus denied had to compromise and pay the GOP off by converting 38% of the stimulus to tax cuts. The GOP knew tax cuts at the offset of a depression would not lead to increased spending as people won't spend any additional bring-home pay when they are worried about whether they will have a job in six months. So the stimulus was 38% smaller than it should have been.

The Wall Street Journal published an article, in May of this year, pointing out that the Unemployment rate would be a full percentage point lower than it is if it weren't for the cuts in Government programs (as a result of demands by Republicans for budget cuts with no revenue enhancements such as ending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest in our country - who have disproportionately gained in wealth and income over the last two to three decades and can certainly afford paying at the rate they paid in the Clinton administration) which lead to lay-offs of policemen, firemen and teachers and other civil servants. You really should read that article.

Now, you tell me, have the GOP been making the economic situation better or worse? Let me hear what you have to say. I would be happy to debate you on whatever point you might be trying to make - are you willing to come out from behind your 'question' and openly propose an argument and then defend it?"

Perhaps Woodruff's question is implying: you can't stop the Republicans from fucking up the Government, so why don't you just let them take over everything? what should we call this approach, 'the IMoral Imperative'? .. If you have an implacable, anti-democratic foe, why not just let them take over instead of fighting for what's right? I guess, in addition to auditioning for a job as resident ass-hole at FOX, Woodruff is also functioning as a fifth column operative for the Republican Party. No thanks Woodruff. I still think we should never consider compromising our democracy.
