I'm a former print news reporter and it ticks me off to see how TV news personalities these days can get away with not doing their jobs as journalists when no-way would their "reporting" pass muster in any newsroom I served in. I know this is a well-discussed topic, but I was prodded to add my two cents' worth after seeing that clip of a reporter yesterday asking Joe Biden to comment on what 45 said about interacting with governors from states hit by the hurricane. I think Biden handled it well and I love the little (well-deserved) jab: "It's called a telephone."
Here's another idea for future similar questions from so-called journalists. Maybe Biden or Harris could reply: "Instead of asking me to comment on another lie from the boy who cried wolf, why don't you fact-check it yourself and then report what you learned?"

(54,150 posts)Well for anything of substance anyway, the journalist was supposed to get some kind of independent confirmation. Information travels too quickly for that these days I guess, because for any lie a Republican says, you can easily find thousands of people online repeating it.
But anyway, if the journalist ran with it and it turned out to be a lie, it damaged their reputation as a reporter. A journalist would feel burned by that source and probably not use them again if at all possible.
Nowadays, media personalities are judged more on their ability to get "access" to people like Donnie, which in turn means they are judged on their willingness to corrupt any journalistic integrity down to a level that pleases Donnie.
Imagine the weather report with two meteorologists, one of which lies. It's raining! No it isn't! We report, you decide!

(159,240 posts)I am absolutely disgusted with the current state of the media; I am reminded of this quote:
Journalism lecturer Jonathan Foster: If someone says its raining and another person says its dry, its not your job to quote them both. Your job is to look out of the fucking window and find out which is true.
