How Trump's Gains with Latinos Could Reshape American Politics, 'Latino Conservative Values': CBS News

Nov. 9, 2024, (2 mins). Description: From PA to FL and TX, areas with high numbers of Hispanics often had little in common on Election Day other than backing Republican Donald Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris for president.

It was a realignment that if it sticks, could change American politics. Texas and Florida are already reliably Republican. But more Hispanics turning away from Democrats in future presidential elections could further dent the party's 'Blue Wall' of Penn., Michigan and Wisconsin. The shift might even make it harder for Democrats in states such as Arizona and Nevada.

Power is self centered and concentrated by the few. EMpowerment is other centered and shared among the many.

of the Latino vote than George W. Bush did twenty years ago, in 2004. Four years after that, Democrats won the House, 60 Senate seats, and 365 electoral college votes.

After this election, I’ve become a little fatalistic about the way we think we need to do something to attract certain demographics. Trump found issues that would resonate across all demographics and just hammered them relentlessly. With the public in the mood for change, this dynamic made him practically unstoppable. But Republicans now own whatever is coming. People will turn back to Democrats when they want change again.

to Dems things could be quite bumpy of course.

Harris and Walz's campaign was first rate and the impacts of this outcome, economically and socially could hit many people hard for years.

It reminds me of Reagan shock, but maybe that's only my perspective. The thought of the US becoming an authoritarian state is a nightmare. We'll find out out. Here's to keeping our democracy and better times ahead.
