This report contains details that some might find upsetting.
Marine veteran Chandler Rand has struggled with various eating disorders since she was a child. She said shes healthy now, but she describes her recovery as an ongoing process. She still has to fight off negative thoughts about her body image and weight.
It's basically like walking a tightrope is what it means for me day to day, Rand said.
Back in 2016, Rand was a Marine. She was successfully treated for anorexia as a teenager, but after boot camp, she began to binge eat and became bulimic.
I don't think I saw that as part of my eating disorder at the time, Rand said. I think I just saw it as part of being a good Marine.

(23,825 posts)She's had eating disorders since childhood, but we are to blame the Marine Corps? I think the reasons may be deeper than some time in the service.
Or, maybe the Marine Corps has a stranger diet than I experienced in the Army.

(2,679 posts)I think calling Marines crayon eaters has been around long before the internet.
Most of the people I see bashing other branches are new / young. In the units Ive been around there is a high level of competition.
And a lot of smack talking. It centers around your group. If youre in 1/?? they talk smack about 2/??. Or the other companies in your battalion. In your company they talk about the other platoons or attachments. It kinda a way to make soldiers perform at a higher standard. But nobody hates anyone.
TEB/Duncanpup is always bashing me about my dad was in the 2/504. And I bash him about being in the 325 which used to be a glider unit.
😊
