- PART 2. 80 Stars who served in the US Military. Guillermo Paz.

When I do my Stars lists and In Memoriam, you have been telling me you´d like to see one of these videos honoring those who served in the military, so I listened. And this time, after a great reception of part one, I´ll try to continue to give you even more than what you asked me for... a whole series of videos. In this follow up sequel, this one about 80 Stars who served in the US military.
Of course, 80 will not be nowhere near enough, and you will "kindly" add them in the comments so I can include them in part three and beyond. Also, if this series keeps showing that you like it and give tons of thumbs up, I can expand on it to add videos about each branch and all. So you know, let me know! Side note: For some I was able to find good pictures of them in uniform, and for some it was impossible for me to secure them. Bob Hope wasn't either, but Congress made him an honorary veteran for his USO shows.

And, Elvis probably wasn't much of a soldier, but he did spend some time in uniform.

Most famous for playing the keyboard in “The Doors,” Manzarek joined the Army during the buildup to Vietnam. He served in Thailand and Okinawa before being kicked out. Manzarek, who had been a student at UCLA Film School before enlisting, returned to college. Only two months after graduation, Manzarek and Jim Morrison formed “The Doors” and became icons.

AND Mike Nesmith (Monkees):
Nesmith, born and raised in Dallas, Texas, dropped out of high school to join the Air Force in 1960. He spent his entire military career close to home, with basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and aircraft mechanic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. He spent the rest of his career stationed at Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

AND grunge musician Jason Everman

As a former Army Ranger and Green Beret, the guitarist for Nirvana and Mindfunk and bassist for Soundgarden served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served from 1994 to 2006, earning the rank of sergeant first class.

...although he didn't spend very long there.

EDIT: Yes, here it is...

Given the choice between the Army or jail after getting busted twice for riding in stolen cars, Hendrix chose to be a paratrooper and joined the 101st Airborne Division. He earned his Screaming Eagle patch in 1961 and was playing after-hours club gigs outside of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Failing to buy into military service, he was given a general discharge under honorable circumstances in 1962.

I also liked their description of Jerry Garcia's time in uniform...
The soul of the Grateful Dead, Garcia enlisted in the Army in 1960 after dropping out of high school at the age of 17. He lasted nine months before receiving a general discharge for essentially being the complete opposite of a soldier. During that time, he had no assignment, so he played his guitar (which he’d smuggled in) all day.

And I'm still trying to wrap my head around "Marine Captain Kangaroo" (although I doubt he made that rank).

I crossed the English Channel one summer and am so glad I did. It was on a beautiful trip to France. And I'll always remember the brave men in the Allied Forces, on sea, in air and on land there. My father crossed the Channel in late 44-early 45 which I didn't know until recently.
