Some veterans are entitled to access PX,

commissary and MWR facilities.

I posted this in Nov of 2019 and the recent VA bulletin mentioned that many veterans are unaware of it. The recent bulletin addresses commissary privileges , but it extends to PX and MWR facilities. In summary, here's who eligible;

Veterans with any service-connected disabilities documented by VA
Veterans who are Purple Heart recipients
Veterans who are former prisoners of war
Individuals assessed, approved and designated as the primary family caregivers of eligible Veterans under VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers

if you live in high sales tax state like we do as the PX doesn't charge sales tax. They have good deals on electronics and Class Six pricing is much lower than the outside.

the savings is still pretty minimal with the PX for me and not necessarily worth the time, gas and effort to maybe save a few bucks, emphasis on the maybe.

Now, the commissary...definite savings.

For those of us hundreds of miles away from the nearest PX or Commissary. I’m retired military, but eventhing closed decades ago.

We live just outside Joint Base Lewis McChord so it's convenient. But like you said, a long trip just isn't worth it.

Same deal as in person - no sales tax. They deliver very quickly, and the prices are OK- not the best you might find, but when you factor in the free shipping with a $49 purchase and lack of sales tax it's worth it! They opened this system up in 2017, but a lot of folks still don't know about it.

I signed up and have been shopping through the Exchange for a couple of years now.

From their Authorized Patrons page:
