Related: About this forumHas anyone ever ordered a replacement DD-214 from eVetRecs? I'm wondering how long it takes to process
I decided to get a veteran's insignia on my driver's license and, of course, need to bring a copy of my DD-214. Holy cow, is my DD-214 FADED. They must have been using very cheap paper and ink because it's been stored in a security box.
Anyway, I googled how to request a new one and it's much easier than I realized. I should have thought of this a long time ago.
National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) through eVetrecs.

(6,242 posts)I requested all my non-classified records and they sent just two separate records. On a positive note, you can track the progress of the process through their website.

(27,322 posts)All of the info they require is pretty individual specific. One thing I remembered being told was to hold on to it because it would be VERY difficult to replace. Of course, that was many, many years ago.
I will see if the Secretary of State will accept my somewhat faded paperwork. It is legible - barely.
I renewed my license on line and still haven't received my new one. Fortunately I printed off the renewal confirmation but I figured maybe I'll just upgrade to the 'full monty' license - real ID, enhanced and with the vet insignia.

(983 posts)I had to order the long form DD-214 when purchasing military time for the NC retirement system and it came surprisingly quickly. I think I did it through the VA website.
