Bryan R. Lowe had been acting strangely for days, his wife said.

Erratic and angry, he ranted about government conspiracies. He bought new cellphones and a new computer and covered their cameras with tape. He went off his medications that treat post-traumatic stress disorder.

In court Thursday, Lisa Lowe explained how uncharacteristic it was for her husband, a 24-year active-duty Army veteran with six combat deployments and a laundry list of accolades under his belt, including three Bronze Stars.

Lisa Lowe said her husband was honorably discharged as a chief warrant officer 5 and had been working for Coca-Cola. She and clinical psychologist Brian Wald, who began treating Lowe after his arrest, hinted at a possible trigger: The parents of his 18-month-old grandson are separating.
