(53,339 posts)It was 20 years after we lost Joe in Vietnam that I found his family and learned he'd been named after his uncle who died at Anzio. That kind of blew me away.

(224,300 posts)I've been to Arlington and saw the changing of the guard at the grave of the unknown, very solumn, very moving. Also saw the grave and the flame burning for JFK, with Bobby and Teddy buried not far away.

(53,339 posts)I know that one Army roommate who was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously is buried there, and I've visited his grave.
My best friend, a VN vet who committed suicide, has his ashes interred in the columbarium there.
But most of the friends I lost are buried in their hometowns.

They are truely not forgotten nor have they ever been in some places.
