Related: About this forumWith Alex Trebek in the news, I got to thinking about TV game shows
And all the ones I used to love watching when I was a kid in the mid-60s.
Of course, Jeopardy! was on TV at noon then. (Hosted by Art Fleming).
I remember that when I stayed home from school if I was sick (a rare occasion), my mother would not let me out of bed.... "If you're too sick to go to school, you're not well enough to be up and around." So she would bring in our little 12 inch portable black and white TV with the cracked screen and set it up next to my bed (usually along with the humidifier that eventually caused water to drip from the ceiling) and I had a blast watching the TV game shows all day long! Some of the ones I remember .... Concentration.....Truth or Consequences ..... Password ..... Jeopardy, of course .....Hollywood Squares .... Let's Make A Deal .....Supermarket Sweep .... Eye Guess ..... Seven Keys ..... PDQ ..... You Don't Say ..... The Match Game ..... The Newlywed Game ..... Just off the top of my head.
Funny, though, I can't seem to get into the recent game shows that are shown on prime time TV.
Does anyone else have any memory of these shows?

(22,991 posts)Concentration was great and the crazies on Let's Make A Deal were most amusing. Supermarket Sweep required savvy strategy; in order to win, you had to load the shopping cart with the smallest but most expensive items thus racking up your total "bill." I'd scream at the dummies who filled their carts with paper towels or frozen turkeys.
It was a little later but let's not forget The Gong Show!
I never watched soap operas although my mother did. But it's actually surprising how many people in entertainment watch soaps!
There are some videos of outtakes from The Newlywed Game and other shows where the contestants inadvertently say outrageous things. It's probably on YouTube.
Thanks for the trip into the memory pit, Ohiogal!
ETA: Art Fleming was ten times the host that Mr. Know-It-All Trebek ever was. Sorry he's ill but he's always been pompous.

(35,068 posts)Ah, yes, the Gong Show. That was big when I was in college. We used to gather round the TV and watch it every day we didn't have classes. Remember the Unknown Comic? I still remember how hard I laughed when a bunch of guys who lived in the apartment below us all ran out into the snow one day after the show was over and treated us to a rousing performance of "The Worm".
Supermarket Sweep ---Load up on the roasts, people!
I have a lot of respect for Alex Trebek, but I've seen him have moments where he was a bit chauvinistic with the female contestants.

(7,603 posts)one had the saddest story. I remember the host had a moustache. The whole thing was a bit creepy.
