that people shared each other's pain over the protest issues. But I guess it could have been literal, since so many protesters were beaten by cops and herded into paddy wagons and jail cells.

Whichever it is , I have always liked this song as a symbol of the protest years.

regarding Richard Harris - best of all of the recordings.
The bad memory that followed was the he was encouraged and actually did make recordings of OTHER songs - THAT WAS JUST NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
