I'm thinking of building a llittle greenhouse

out of 2X4s and plastic. Something really simple, 6 X 6 X 8, with one shelf on three sides and two rolls of shading material on the roof to let down when shade is needed. That way the cats won't munch on my seedlings and I won't have to worry about chickens snacking on strawberries or tomatoes unless they are invited.

1. Have you considered one of the temporary type that fold up like tents?

Or an inexpensive kit? Both might be easier than trying to build one (but, for all I know, you could be a carpenter or builder in real life!), and might not really cost any more once you factor in materials.

2. Those are perfect. I have to go price out the materials and see if I'm saving any by making it

from scratch. The hardest part isn't the building because I can do that. It's that I gave away my power tools when we moved back to San Francisco so, for now, I have to have everything cut at the store before I bring it home. The tools went to a good home, that's okay. I just haven't had to replace them yet.

i bought a pop up house from these guys, and it is just right. i am sure you can find something that works for you that you can afford.
save yourself some trouble. put that work into the garden, instead.

4. Those prices are really good!

I may have scored one that one of our boarders can't use in his area. It's about the size I wanted. I should find out today. If that falls through, I'll definitely get the clear one at that link. I can't build it for that unless the materials fall out of the sky.

Yesterday I was gifted with two lemon trees -- maybe five years old and both bearing! It was a perfect cloudy day to transplant them, too. This climate disruption stuff is so weird. I was looking at the Sunset Western Garden Book yesterday and wondered if we can even be said to be in a "zone" any more. It freezes in November now and we have 90 degree weather in MAY. The only upside (for now anyway) is that it's not as dry as it used to be, less rain but more humidity.

5. Yeah! I did score that greenhouse frame.

It's 7 X 10 X 6 at the highest point. I got the plastic and tape this morning. This afternoon will get the shading material -- maybe use some of that dark cloth people use to kill weeds. Also may get a little bit of poultry netting to make vents in each side so nobody cooks in there.

Very happy camper here.
