Related: About this forumWent for the hearing aids today. 2nd attempt, this time Costco.
As described by an ent 15 years ago, the loss is in the upper register and there is not too much relief to be had.
The Costco lady confirmed it.... Did the test, tried two of their three brands of hearing aids and did the "walk around the store" routine.
Both were as useless as my left nut.
I don't fault Costco but I am left frustrated and disappointed.

Im surprised Costco couldnt find something helps. I do think you have to adjust to hearing aids. For many they make it better after adjusting over several weeks, but the better sound is not exactly like we remember.
In any event, Im following to see what others think/recommend.

(28,596 posts)Apologies if you have, but my sister had hearing loss at a young age and the hearing aid store suggested she get tested turned out to be a benign tumor. She had it removed many years ago, but (again, you may have checked this already) maybe it's not something a hearing aid can fix.

(890 posts)Did the walk around the store thing ---- totally useless.
Bought the aids because the alternative is being isolated and depressed.
3 years almost 4 years later. My life is much, much better.
The aids make my itchy ears worse and there are times when I want to rip them out of ears and throw them across the room but consider the isolation you are/may experience.
My friend, buy the aids and wear them and enjoy your life.

(3,520 posts)Hearing aids not recommended because of nerve loss. FWIW, the device, although not perfect, has been life-changing for her.
One unexpected use: a pal working on her camp roof took the receiver with him, so he could talk to her in the kitchen below.
