My friend had an injury and surgery and is recovering at home. She is unable to drive. Her neighbors have been very helpful. She lives about 100 miles away. I have gone to help her other times, but right now, I have an ailing cat that I can't take with me, or leave alone. I set up a Doordash account last week, so she could order food from places she's used to getting food from. She calls me and I pull up the menu and get what she tells me. I'm keeping track so she can pay me back every month or so.
It is working well, but today, she wanted a particular thing from Panera. The Doordash site for Panera omitted the portion size option for the item, and so I can't order it. I understand what the problem is and that Doordash is going to have to get a tech to fix the omission. She called Doordash, and I used the chat box, no help. I cecked another sandwich and it has the portion option. I tried another Panera near her and the portion size is omitted on that one as well. I'm frustrated because I can't get my friend to understand that until Doordash gets a tech to fix the glitch, she is not going to be able to get the food she wants at this time. I think what is most irritating is that I had a career in computer operations and work at a higher than average level of understanding. She is not interested in learning more than basics, but she acts like I don't know what I'm talking about.
The restaurant has the item in the store. I'm hoping that if she wants it, her neighbor will go get it.

(24,085 posts)ins and outs). Understand, I've been in IT for over 40 years, and one of the biggest gripes I had to tell my fellow workers, product teams, etc., that they needed to 'dumb' down their presentations, their written materials etc., anything having to do w/ IT, as a topic (especially back in the early 1980s/1990s), since so many didn't understand it.
To give credit now, it's a lot better, people do, for the most part, do understand a heck of a lot more of the IT environment, etc. Unfortunately, you still get some that won't even try to learn even a tiny bit. And I think that this desire to not learn hurts them. If you are somewhat more intelligent or more versed in a topic, you can talk/weave your way a little bit better w/ others.
Nice of you to really help your friend. Doordash may have eliminated the size option too, so you don't really know who's at fault, Doordash or Panera. If it were me, I'd simply say 'oh well, I won't bother w/ ordering this particular item and pick something else'. Someone is doing you a favor, thus, bend a little bit backwards in accepting some choices.

(465 posts)I ran into this problem when I used to order Panera through Doordash for my mom. Have you tried order directly from Panera? You have to pay them instead of Doordash, but if you have Paypal or Apple Pay or something else, you can still pay without sharing your card information. I've found that many restaurants use Doordash for delivery, so you sometimes get the same experience, but ordering directly from the restaurant gives you a bit more flexibility on the menu.
That's a really nice thing you're doing for your friend, btw.
Good luck!

(19,009 posts)She has a complicated medical history and this didn't help. Health or not, she is resistant to modern technology and over the last 30 years that she and I have had numerous chances to get training and access, I did and she didn't. I'm glad to see that she is learning to use the Doordash site, and I'm hopeful she will eventually either not need this or set up an account for herself.
