Is a retiree properly called a "slacker" by younger family

Scenario:;

An 82 yr old woman of my acquaintance

Mother of four children and ten grandchildren.

One of her children has disabilities, sheltered for 54 years.

45 yr history of paid labor in her career.

Has helped her adult children in many many ways over the years.

Yesterday, she was called a "slacker all her life:" by one of the sons.

LOLOL.

What do you think of that??

Leave him $1 so he can't contest "being forgotten" and a lengthy explanation. Pretty sure this isn't the first time this guy has demonstrated such disrespectful behavior.

Forty years in a cubicle, plus 6 years in the US Navy to protect the rights of egotistical jerks like the son cited above.

I thought that notion of discounting "woman's work" had been set aside long ago.

jobs in aerospace, electronics, optics, university staff, finance, computers, field support, IT management and others. I often had evening shift raising a child, helping her commute to school, driving back and forth to athletics, summer activities, and helping at crunch times, formatting references for papers, moving her into and out of college dorms (ouch) 500 miles from home.

I was called "stupid and lazy"; words that are hard to forget, for their dissonance. And in retirement, I have cleared acres by hand, improved my piano skills, taken photos ( got a sunrise this morning before coffee), keep up with tech daily, and maintain a home (sorta) single-handed.

Going to install 4 new window blinds today, practice piano, walk after sunset if the heat allows, and so on.

Being "Stupid and lazy", as always.

You just have to be honest about yourself, live up to your own expectations, not those of others, nor their projections of their own failures and shortcomings onto you.

Edit to add: My daughter is understanding and appreciative!

proceeds from the estate. Idiot is not thinking, usually long-lived retirees are spending all they are getting, just to keep on top of things.

Or, that son is just a plain stupid idiot.

Like they say, don't cast that first stone until you walked in their shoes too. It's too bad that a full-grown man, would call his 82-year-old Mom a slacker. Insulting at the very least.

I was a single mom sturggling back and forth on welfare through all my kids' growing up.

When my folks died, they thought the money truck arrived. I spent a lot unwisely also because they/we had gone without so much...
They burned through 2 cars - EACH. I paid one's rent for 6 months and another's bail and legal bills...finally, my wife convinced me they were sucking me dry.
Proof came when I had surgery and instead of calling to check on me, my sone sent a screenshot of his phone bill...no words, just the bill.
Fucker got cut off REAL quick.
My other kid, well, the jury is still out. I am taking a no contact break until after the new year...

both have told me horrible nasty things as well.
but I blame their age (21 & 22) and the fact they have to learn some rough knocks before appreciating life

either way, I am not allowing them to milk me anymore

This denigration of elders began to be noticable immediately after Joe stepped down to pave the way for Kamala.

I'm not blaming Joe, it's just that some of the younger folks saw this as open season on elders, presuming we are all lazy, inept, whatever.

I'd been talking to a salesman at a Verizon store who had told me about an upcoming timeframe when new phones would be coming out and the one I wanted would likely be significantly discounted. So I called the store back a couple of times, each time the line was answered by a youngish snotty sounding man who laughed when I asked for the "middle aged salesman" He came right out and said, "oh, you mean the really old guy with gray hair," laughing. Then he went on to say "I think he's on some kind of old person medical leave." What a dick.

This was a store in Arkansas, for whatever it's worth. I won't do business there, just on principle.
