Related: About this forumGeezer joke:
Charlie and Ralph were watching the Patriot's game while their wives were out in the kitchen preparing some snacks.
Charlie said "We went to a fantastic new restaurant last night."
"What's the name of it?"
"Aw jeez...damn...I can't think of it. Wait a minute. No. OK, what's the name of that flower? It's red. It has thorns."
"Rose?"
"THAT'S IT! ROSE! What's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

At our age, we use coupons to get pizza.

stereotyping jokes about old people.
Ageism is alive and well. It's rarely called out. If you look at the rules for being alerted on, ageism is never mentioned in the list of not allowed discriminations.

(554 posts)I think as we get older, and I am, I joke about my own forgetfulness and am not offended by jokes.
My uncle died from Alzheimer and my dad had dementia and it was very difficult to care for him for several years so I am familiar with what I might face. Still old fart jokes are OK with me and I try to lighten up as I get older.

(2,963 posts)Us of the age that this cartoon is relevant need to laugh at our diminishing abilities. To do otherwise would be a descent into despair.
Wow that came out kinda profound...a little tip...marijuana helps a lot too!

(13,181 posts)So this is the one place on DU where old pepole can make jokes about themselves.
missed that (ironic LOL) because it appeared on DU's home page under "Trending Now".

(13,181 posts)of single issue "groups", you can exclude them from "my account". I did that a long time ago and have been much more satisfied with DU since then. You can then include those groups you do wish to read.

(2,963 posts)but right now for us a day doesnt go by that doesnt resemble that cartoon. It is a daily reality for us and we can either cry or laugh, right now we are laughing, keeping our fingers crossed on the future.

A good friend of mine (about the same age), says he has CRS: Can't Remember Shit. I realize I have it too!
The way I look at it, we can only store so much info in our heads. Eventually it starts to get a bit clogged with useless stuff. A good vacation, a respite, or some other intervention tends to clear the logjam.
Now, I'm not experiencing Alzheimers (I hope) but I do notice that names and such that I used to be able to recall quickly now take a while to resurface. That and walking into a room and having no clue what it was I wanted to retrieve or do. Sometimes I fight that by repeating to myself several times why I'm getting up and going into another room. Sometimes that even works! LOL.
