Related: About this forumI am developing a dowager's hump due to poor posture and leaning over the computer.
I wonder if its still possible to correct my posture at age 69?
I got a simple posture support brace from Amazon which I wear part of the day and try to remember the correct posture the rest of the time. Sleeping is a problem as I always have curled up in a side fetal position all my life and I should be sleeping on my back.
I'm going to get a osteoporosis lab test to checkout if that is a possibility.
I run everyday (4-5 miles) but I have to keep reminding myself "head up!!!"
Always something.

(152,070 posts)I would not worry about your posture while sleeping. You need to be comfortable, and besides, sleeping on your back can bring its own problems.
I think you're doing the right things.
If you have an orthopedic MD, you could consult with him/her to see if there's anything else that can be done. You might get advised to use a physical therapist for a while to get some conditioning.
Try to keep your shoulder blades pulled back; that will really help your posture.
Good luck!
On edit: the running is EXCELLENT!

(13,181 posts)DH corrected his bent-over walk with physical therapy. But what you have may not be posture. The "dowager's hump, if that's what you really have, is generally caused by the collapse of the vertebrae due to osteoporosis. There' s also a higher up, smaller lump (I have it) which is caused by a lifetime of reading with head bent forward or of pulling one's shoulders together to disguise large breasts (that's not what caused mine, lol). I've always done lat pulls at the gym and I think it helps, but it's getting harder to find real free weight lat pullers.
