And then remember, Im not supposed to be working here. Im retired.
I had one last night.
At least it beats the heck out of the exam dream! You know, the one where you have an exam and you havent cracked the book or done any work at all?

(18,642 posts)I have had the exam dream many times though, and in multiple variations. In one, I was ready to take the exam but couldn't find the room. Wandered through what must have been miles of corridors searching for it. It was a relief to wake up and realize it wasn't real!

(38,958 posts)The scenario varies some but they seem to be a regular feature of my sleep. I think I should get some overtime for all this work.

(18,161 posts)I was always the last one to leave in a big, once exclusive building.
I could not get out, when I finally did, could not find my car. That was actually funny because I was the last to leave. That happened at the beginning of the Pandemic. Not sure what is signified.
The building was torn down.

(25,230 posts)I traveled a lot and there were times I almost missed my flight home so of course I dreamt about not finding my car to go home.
I have a theory with my work dreams and car dreams. I dealt with A-Fib for 9 years and having it was OK but it made me more or less uneasy. I wouldn't sleep on my left side because I could feel my heart out of time. Jan. 23rd 2020 I had a successful ablation for my A-Fib and now my dreams are less frequent and when I have the dreams there is someone in my dream, maybe a former co-worker who helps find our car.
My old dreams were quite frustrating. I even dreamt about one place in particular where I worked on the road, Zanesville. I don't know why but the place I worked was quite different than how it looked in my dreams, but I knew it was Zanesville. I mean the people were quite friendly in Zanesville. I even joked with them that a brother and sister from West Virginia founded their town in the 1800's. I mean everyone in Zanesville owned a Dodge truck.

My Son was an Engineer for Chrysler. Refused to drive anything else. Then the CEO sold Chrysler to a German company. The CEO made a fortune. They immediately drained it of cash money, sold it back.
He now has a Malibu and GMC. His Dad worked at GM!

(25,230 posts)I am exaggerating of course, but the people in Zanesville loved Dodge trucks. Remember now that I retired in 2010 so my work was years prior to that.

(18,161 posts)Have to listen to the anger of those who lost their jobs because of companies moving over seas or taking lower wages to keep them from moving with tax breaks the Republicans put in.
As an Official of the only Union for Engineers in the auto industry, listening to the threats of moving to frighten the people who worked for him into cutting wages. The Union did not stand a chance against Reagan and Republicans.
Joe Biden is aware of losing your job. His Father did. That is the reason he brought the Unions in to his campaign. Love them or hate them they created the middle class.

(9,605 posts)not only at my last job, but one from years ago. I also dream about missing my exam in college.

(23,762 posts)Worse are the dreams where I light up a cigarette. It takes a while to get over the feeling that I (once again) have failed to quit. Those are also fading, as it's been about twenty years since I smoked.

(858 posts)Drove me nuts. I dreamed many times I was working with the old team and understanding the whole time I had retired. Thought it was just me.

(15,359 posts)I don't work there any more. I never dream about the blood center I'm retired from. I actually loved that job most of the time and it was a cakewalk compared to every other job I had.

(11,780 posts)To finish my senior year. I dropped out after the first couple months but I only needed a half credit to graduate so I went to summer school to finish up. But I missed my senior year, didnt bother me at the time but I guess at some level it must have. In the dream I always acknowledge that I already graduated from college so its pretty weird.

(15,042 posts)No dreams about former workplaces, though, at least not the kind that are upsetting enough to remember very long.
I've had some nightmares about working at a new job and not knowing what the hell I'm even supposed to do, though.

(1,193 posts)More common for me is to dream I'm back in the Army. Kinda ridiculous since I did one hitch over forty years ago. Add to that that the Army and I weren't really compatible.

(12,904 posts)Her job is to take calls from people that are calling in sick from around the world.
There is a man who retired from the company five years ago, who calls in sick a couple times every month. She thinks he is lonely, so she just talks to him for a bit, and then says she will note his file.
Maybe he just had a work dream.

(15,042 posts)Or perhaps a long-time employee who became institutionalized by it, like Brooks in "The Shawshank Redemption".
I worked for a temp agency when I was young, and I was sent to an absolute hellhole one time that would happily work you to death. I left after a few months.
Years later, I mentioned that place to a coworker and it turned out that he worked there for several years before the place went out of business. He asked me if I remembered a particular guy who worked there, but I didn't. Then he explained that guy had worked there for many years, and it was the only job he ever had. And that he often worked 7 days a week, double-shifts, etc. Anyway, that guy committed suicide over that place shutting down! He killed himself over that shithole company... managed by sociopaths as far as I could tell!

(12,904 posts)She thinks he may just be a lonely guy. Shes also very friendly, with a sweet, southern drawl. He was a mechanic for the company for a long time, with an exemplary attendance record.

(6,913 posts)I was an attorney for the state, taxed with handling multiple small hearings and trials in various counties. (Some weeks I drove hundreds of miles). In the dreams, I am usually appearing for trial on a case I know nothing about, sometimes on a subject I know little about. If the court has a brief recess, I go outside and walk around, getting lost.
Disturbing dreams.

(26,727 posts)the airport, working the ticket counter. I did that for ten years, the longest job I ever had. In my dreams I was always having trouble booking the flights, or printing the tickets. Eventually those dreams stopped.
When I was in high school I would have a recurring dream about taking a math test that I apparently hadn't studied for, or even attended the classes when the material was being covered. I always thought it was more of an overall anxiety dream. Then, some thirty years later, I was taking math again at my local junior college, and I started having that dream again. Clearly it was a specific math anxiety dream.

(54,273 posts)I was an airline pilot.
I come to work and I'm not in uniform.
Or I don't have my passport.
Or my ID badge.
Or my nav kit.(The rectangular black bag we used to carry with all our route maps, approach charts, aircraft manual, etc., etc. before it all became digital.)
I had them a lot right after I retired and for several years.
That was 22 years ago.
Not so much now.
Now I dream I can't find a men's room.
