It's a big step but I'm so done. The school year ends May 26. Not sure what I'll be doing but, well, I'm done. I've just lost the joy I had in teaching so this year has been extremely difficult.
Your next chapter will be epic, Im sure. Be positive. This can be your best adventure yet!

(13,840 posts)I early retired at 57 due to disability. So burned out, it was affecting my mental, physical health.
Hoping your next chapters are fun and rewarding

school in 1973, and became a peds nurse practitioner by 1976. Loved the job for a long time. Switching to electronic medical records took away a lot of the fun, as I was spending more time being a data entry clerk than a clinician. Then add in COVID, and because of COVID people wanting telehealth visits.
I worked until a month shy of turning 70. Had I been able to stick it out an additional 10 weeks, I would have completed 25 years with my final employer, which I once aspired to.
It just wasnt any fun anymore, and 10 more weeks sounded like 10 years. It was time to go. Except for first time parents and new and young babies, I dont miss it.
Congratulations. And revel in it!

(2,946 posts)As long as I could teach and work with kids it was great but COVID did a number on kids. They didn't learn prerequisites well - or at all - and missed some of the behavioral maturity gained in younger years.
One size fits all required professional development....days lost to testing....it all took its toll. I lost all joy in my job. Four more months to hold it together - I'm ready to go now!

Then look for a hobby, do some touring around.
ONe of my friends does stuff through his local community arts department to keep busy.

(4,249 posts)I'm retiring in a few months, probably at the end of May. Much as I loved my job, I just can't keep doing this. Part of me is screaming "Nooooooo!" but that sound is getting fainter by the day.
