Rough day

Finally got to see a neurologist for increased leg weakness, possibly related to lumbar spinal stenosis, possibly not.

He didn't care for the EMG I had done last week. Did another one.

No final diagnosis, but he left me with two possible options - multilevel nerve impingement needing spinal surgery, or motor neurone disease (ALS).

Rough day.

5. As someone constantly fighting

spinal stenosis and it's pain, as well as autoimmune diseases, my heart goes out to you. I've had two surgeries and at 67, it's as bad as it's ever been. Docs say they won't even operate on my back any more (not that I care to go through that again, anyway).

Try to rest easy and not worry too much. The stress always seems to make my pain and weakness worse.

10. My son is a second year orthopedic surgery resident who is pursuing a career in spinal surgery. he

is smart as hell but not yet qualified to offer an opinion otherwise I would ask if you wanted t discuss your situation with him. I hope your medical situation is resolved by the time he is finished his fellowship. I had spinal surgery about 25 years ago to lumbar region. I was young just out of law school. After surgery my problems persisted until I got a stomach virus , couldn’t eat, and lost 25lbs and resumed lifting. Since losing the weight, my back has been fine. I still have some numbness to outside left foot as a result of damage done to spinal nerve from the herniated disc but it doesn’t bother me. My dad’s friend Dr. Frederick Simeone did my surgery. He literally wrote the text book med students still use today on neurosurgery and the back. But, interestingly and why he knew my dad, was his love of old cars. Dr. Simeone who just died a couple of years ago has what Fortune magazine called the most valuable old car collections in the world worth over a billion dollars. His collection is worth more than Ralph Lauren’s and the Waltons etc. He would get a kick out of saying that. He has a car museum in Philadelphia that nobody knows about.
