Because of the misguided, murderous actions of less than half a dozen black people (an infinitesimally small minority) the entire black community will no doubt be guilty by "association" - association in that they share the same skin color as the shooters, of course. This will only give more ammunition (both literally and figuratively) to white supremacists of all stripes - most scarily, the murderously violent ones.
When a white person kills, it is written off as an isolated, lone wolf incident that has no bearing on white people as a whole. When a black person kills, it's as if all black people have killed. That is the social reality and context of the country in which we all live.
Best wishes to all of you as we desperately hope, long, and pray for peace in our time.

(3,580 posts)And an entire race was not blamed. We've had right-wing white anti government groups target police and have publically stated they encourage killing police and no one has nonstop coverage blatantly blaming white people.

(10,893 posts)with just about everything: Whites are seen as individuals, while Blacks and other non-White groups are generalized and grouped together even though not all of us think alike and even though most of us don't condone what the gunman did...
