Disgusting! Some White People Are Complaining That Luke Cage Is 'So Black'

Here we go again.

Over the weekend, folks all over the country have focused their attention on Netflix's newest original series, Luke Cage, so much so that the streaming capacity was too much to hold up at one point, crashing the site. The main topic that has everyone talking, though, is how unapologetically Black the series is, and, of course, this has some white folks upset and shouting "reverse racism."

Taking to Twitter, some white people who checked the new series out expressed how underrepresented they felt in the Harlem-set show:

First episode of Luke Cage, where are all the white People? This show is very racist!

The problem with these people is the fact that their whiteness isn't being focused and centered. It's pretty much the problem with living in a white supremacist society.

back in the time when his partner was a white guy named Power Fist. For these people to act surprised he is black is silly. Then again, for those who complain, Captain America handed his title to Falcon, who he knew FOR YEARS, and Tony Stark realized he needed to hand his armor to someone after his best friend Jim Rhodes died. Me personally, I hope Riri ditches the Iron man label and revives the mantle of possibly the best Black superhero in Marvel, the late, GREAT, War machine. Jim Rhodes would be proud.

It's probably the best Marvel tv to date, hands down. We're almost through it. Unlike Jennifer Jones, which started strong but went to stupid places about 2/3 of the way through, Luke Cage has yet to have a "You have got to be kidding, that's so stupid!" moment.

Very refreshing to have a nearly all African Anerican cast telling the story, with such stunningly good acting from everyone. Anyone having an issue about it needs to have a word with themselves about racism.

I like it too. I can't think of a filmed version of a comic which is much better. Preacher or The Strain maybe. I enjoy it being pretty much all black, that's interesting to me. Some places are pretty much all black so what's wrong with portraying it?

It was a great story, with few whites, and holds up well even after all these years. The best stories gives us a window on other lives rather than a mirror to reflect ourselves.

it would probably be mostly porn. Just sayin'.

Oh, it bugs me so much when people do the "when is white history month?"....um, the other 11 months in the US, duh.

When I watched I thought how great it was an almost 100% people of color cast. I think there is only one white character. All either black or Latino

I fell asleep on the couch again, and I have to get up in 4 hours and put in a long day of work with overtime. I fell asleep while watching Luke Cage. That's not an indictment of the TV show, it's an indictment of my poor judgement in staying up so late. But the show's so good that I just kept watching and watching.

I like the fact that I'm watching a show with an all-black population, and I'm a white guy. Is someone tying those idiots up and forcing them to watch it?

I'm way hooked. Best use of a Wu Tang song ever.

And I love the underlying history of the black power movement most of all. Luke Cage is a true Black Panther, thoughtful, methodical, worldly, honorable --

I could see how a few Trumplets could get their panties in a bunch over it. And I'm glad.

The music is just the best. I'm going to buy whatever collection of it I can find.

Luke Cage had spectacular diversity. Huge age range on the actors, body type diversity, main characters and extras of various ethnic groups... it even has repeated female conversations that pass the Bechdel test.

I don't think I've ever seen a show that so perfectly showcased what Harlem, and a lot of black neighborhoods I've either been to or lived in were like. I lived in one of the black neighborhoods in El Paso-- a barber shop right down the block where the talk of the day hinged on what seasonal sport was being played. The only thing that was missing was the swear jar, to be honest. One of the very few things in general that made me miss home, cause if anyone knows El Paso, they know there isn't much worth returning for once you leave.
