The premise of if the south won. We don't need a series showing this for the racists I this country.

Bad idea hbo

The premise is to shock the audience, but it's not going to be such an alternative universe. With Donny in office, we are going backward on so many issues. The whole look how screwed up America is with slavery. Isn't really going to be that much different than modern day Trump America. They're getting rid of voting rights, stopping the small incremental changes to prison incarceration. They're moving away from the few government regulations to protect minorities at the work place, buying a home etc. Black people are still being lynched and their white murders go free.

This show might have made an impact around 2012 when Obama was president and we were still progressing toward that "more perfect union".

Allegorical exposure of the racism of the RW and Trump? Guess time will tell.

It's just things are getting worst and there no light at the end of this, particular tunnel.

JHan has a way better idea of an alternative history. I.E. Why does the bad guy always have to win. What about an alt history where the North lived up to the many promises it made to freed slaves. Think about a series where every slave got their 40 acres and mule. Where the North didn't capitulate to the South to restore the status quo. Where the U.S. government didn't abandon treaties with Native tribes.

That would be just as dramatic and controversial as the South won or the South was allowed to continue slavery.

There's an obsession with dystopian art and narratives , this will be in a similar vein. Anyone tackling the Civil War is probably imagining a world worse than it is now because the post civil war South was terrible for blacks, this show will only show a world even more terrible but who knows? The show might end up highlighting more moral failures on top of the moral failures in the historical record but I really wanna know why it didn't occur to them to imagine something that would have truly flipped History?

An alternative story line where newly freed slaves actually get their 40 acres and a mule? An alternative storyline where Confederates are tried for treason. An alternative storyline where the consequence of full demolition of the South meant we never saw Jim Crow or Segregation? Why not a show about those outcomes?

... but instead we might get more torture, but who knows, not a word has been written yet and I won't prejudge them.

It's HBO so it might not color in the lines. Then again, they are also doing a Tubman biopic.
