(7,220 posts)From what I understand, he's not been accused of sexual assault, rather something on the order of "workplace harassment". I know, both are unacceptable, but we're going to have to get used to the fact that there are degrees of this kind of thing. Assuming the allegations are true.
Apparently his accusers have reported verbal comments of a sexual nature, that made them uncomfortable. Statements such as "I wish I was in there" to a pregnant woman (whom I believe was a reporter covering the movie they were shooting). Also apparently there were comments about attire that went way beyond "you look nice today". Importantly, it seems there are witnesses including in one instance, fellow actors. Alan Arkin apparently asked Freeman to "knock it off" after he made repeated suggestive comments to a woman on the set.
I hope the allegations are not true. Freeman seems to be responding that his comments were taken the wrong way. I will say that as a woman, I tend to let a lot more comments of that nature slide when they're coming from an 80-something, than I would from a much younger man. I figure older men come from a different generation and don't know any better.
