FYI - Miami Gardens is its own city; it is the largest city in Florida that has a majority African American population.
The presentation was over an hour long, so you may not have time for it, but what the panelists brought up were real issues. There was a local Congresswoman, the city mayor, the head of the Chamber of Commerce, a pastor, the head of Florida Memorial.
Here were some of their issues:
- Getting county school boards to hire black businesses
- helping black businesses access emergency funds
- Creating mentor-protege programs that pull up black businesses
- Enabling ex-felons to access public-private-partnership monies
- getting computers to HBCU students so that they ca attend online classes
- Helping with student loan debt
- Addressing the PTSD that comes with COVID-19
- people not being able to afford to live where they work
- helping the Homestead prison where 600 women out of 668 had COVID-19
Here is a transcript - of course it's more fun to watch.
