Latino/Hispanic
Related: About this forumSerious question with no intent to offend ...
How many generations does it take for a family relocating/immigrating from ... say ... Eastern Europe (or Africa, for that matter); before one can claim "Hispanic" as an ethnicity?

(24,544 posts)I just came in here to see how active this forum is. And I am horrified by how dismally quiet it is in here.
This web site is in desperate, DIRE need of more minorities. It is critical. But I am utterly fascinated at the number of people who love to run around DU trumpeting that they are Hispanic/Latina but who haven't seen fit to step so much as their crusty baby toe in this forum. A forum dedicated to their community and issues and where they could talk about absolutely ANYTHING, whatever they wanted.
'Tis such a curious thing...

(31,849 posts)there is a reason for that. The question is why? I have my thoughts, based on my DU experience.

(58,785 posts)are any Hispanic/Latino DUers at all and found this thread. I've missed the posts Number23's been reading. They are only the second-largest block based on "ethnicity" in the nation. No offense to those who are here. I hope there's a lot of talking going on somewhere else.
Interesting question, 1Strong.

(5 posts)For an effort at transparency or honesty, call it what you will, I am a son of a Mexican immigrant, a lady who came with her proper credentials & documents, who got her "green card," and who eventually became a US citizen.
So, I suppose you might consider me, or some at least would consider me "Hispanic" or "Mexican-American." I am also a "heritage" speaker of Spanish, fluent in both Mexican & Castilian (castellano) Spanish.
I am new to this forum; please excuse me, but what do you call "trumpeting" that a person is or claims to be minority? Just curious. Thank you.
May I ask what is your ethnicity or racial affiliation or self-identity? This would help me understand maybe, where you are coming from. Thanks again.
Have a nice day. Que tengas buen dia, espero que tengas un dia muy lindo. (May you have a good day; I hope you have a very nice day).
