I have heard the meme "I never heard of 'White Hispanic' before Trayvon Martin" and variations ...

but I spent a portion of 2010 being a census enumerator ... and I remembered that answering "White" as your race on the census form had nothing to do with answering your ethnicity - which could be Hispanic.

So, any time that a person pushing the RW agenda says "I never heard of White Hispanic", I remember the form (see questions 8 and 9 for "Person 1", questions 5 and 6 for "Person 2-6&quot :

Even now, to some people, Irish, Italians, and Jews are not white.

Obama's father is black, his mother's white. What does the "media" refer to him as? "Our first BLACK President."

Zimmerman's father is WHITE, his mother is Hispanic. I know, it's a stretch for the person to say that the "father determines the designation", but his implication would be that Z would be "white" by paternal genetics.

Then again, since the President's father was Kenyan, and his mother was a citizen of the U.S.A. (and there was a move to make it legal for Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for President, nullifying the "birthers'" arguments), that would truly make President Obama our first "African-American" President.

however, I think Zimmerman is more mestizo. I notice there is no box to check for that on the form. since you worked for the census, you should look into Puerto Rico and take a look how many self identify as white. race isn't always viewed the same in latin america as the US.

Spain conquered the Americas and left a trail of European ancestry in the wake.
