I need a recommendation for a book on English colonization

My daughter and son in law are on an extended trip to South East Asia. So far have been in Japan, Indonesia, China, India, and Nepal. My daughter has put in a book request for a book that tells about the English colonization in the area. I think she got interested in it while in Indonesia. I am at at a loss here. Anyone read on this topic and have some recommendations for me?

I will try them out. I would like to get her the book for Christmas. Not a topic I have ever investigated.
