(12,875 posts)4. I lost hope when I heard PJ took over from Del Toro.
He's all wrong for the material... he said flat out he did not want it to be a whimsical, family-friendly adventure story... he wanted it to be a "darker and grittier" war movie like LOTR. The producers basically indicated they saw the kinder, gentler tone of the Hobbit as a weakness of the material.
And then they broke their promise to film it in 35 MM to conform visually to LOTR; it'll be filmed in eye-gouging 3-D with twice the framerate of a cinematic film, like a TV show.
