Why are the pyramids in Egypt?

Went there back in 1989 and they have apparently done a lot of work archeological work at that location since! Ended up getting to see the ones in Egypt 3 years later (those at Teotihuacan are smaller although Giza has some smaller ones too... but then Teotihuacan is on a plateau that is at ~7000 ft elevation).
