I guess the muses are busy today, this just popped into my head and I felt to post it.

(59,599 posts)I wasn't quite sure whether to post this or not... I used to write tons of these every day, at first in an attempt to capture the Platonic essence of emotions, things, and events. But then it seemed the muses took over. I used to drive around writing these constantly. Finally, I removed my note pad from the car.

I wrote this years ago:
Senryu
Hold my love lightly
like a seashell to your ear
and hear its music
I've tried to distinguish the difference between Senryu and Haiku, but just when I think it's clear, it leaves me again.
Haiku
The breezes of spring
brush gently the upturned face
a wet kiss of rain.
I think I posted these elsewhere on DU awhile back, but I can't rememmber where. Please post others of your "work."

(59,599 posts)Lilly, these are beautiful!!!
My understanding is that haiku hints at a season of the year. A senryu is about human thoughts, emotions, behavior. Other species, too, I suppose!
Lucky? Maybe. But it almost felt like a compulsion. As if there were so many lined up waiting to be expressed...
I studied a good deal of art therapy & agree with many of the gurus that art forms are sort of autonomous entities desiring to express through us. Sort of the hollow bone theory...

(9,605 posts)I think you're right about the difference, and I tried to capture that. Must be old age, but I keep mixing up the two!
So what is waiting in line to be expressed? I can't wait to find out ...

(59,599 posts)Dunno what wishes to be expressed.
Do you paint? Let a brush & colors choose you...
