Why I support the death penalty

This past year a girl was killed on her 10th birthday ~

Her mother had found men on the Internet who came and had sex with the girl;
then a couple of them killed the girl,
dismembered her in the bathtub,
and set her on fire.

Two men and the mother will each be tried for her murder this year.

“New Mexico girl was raped and strangled on 10th birthday, had STD when she died”

Admittedly, I don't know what other punishment would be equal to such a crime. Well, maybe tossing the depraved onto a remote island and let them go all 'Lord of the Flies', but that's not going to happen.

I oppose the death penalty but I understand why someone might support it.

Study after study has shown this. I can't let go of my principles because others have no principles. A life in prison, especially in New Mexico, will be a more suitable hell than one that may not exist. If they die, the potential for remorse dies with it.

Why "especially in New Mexico" ?

have reputations as being particularly bad, I think. Maybe I am still partially biased because of the prison riots that occurred when I was growing up in New Mexico...

i oppose giving government the right to kill its subjects.

bad governments are always able to find some heinous case or two to make killing its subjects look like a reasonable thing to do.

then they quietly use that same power either deliberately in evil or negligently in evil.

how is it that so many people have been executed or are on death row and later proven to be nowhere near the scene of the crime?
how is it that so many of them are people of color?
how is it that so many of them are poor?

how many political executions have there been the world over?

oh it can't happen here, but look who heads up our government at the moment....

yes, of course, the crime described is horrific. if found guilty after a fair trial, lock 'em up and throw away the key.
how is that considered somehow inadequate?

"if killing anybody's such a terrible crime / why does this blood-thirsty chorus come round from time to time / let him dangle"
