Tim Tebow is back in the NFL after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars
(CNN)The NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, the team announced on Thursday.
The 2007 Heisman Trophy award winner will reunite with his former college coach Urban Meyer in Jacksonville, where he will transition to tight end.
"I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team," Tebow said in a statement.
"I know it will be a challenge, but it is a challenge I embrace. I am dedicated to taking the direction of our coaching staff and learning from my teammates. I appreciate everyone's support as I embark on this new journey."
Tebow, 33, last played in the NFL in a preseason game in 2015 before switching to pursue a broadcasting career and then spending some time on MLB's New York Mets minor league system from 2016 to 2019.

Constantly making a spectacle of himself with his phony christian antics.
I think he also claimed to be a virgin

(92,516 posts)I hope he gets called for it if he does. And I hope it will make clear the hypocrisy about the whole kneeling thing.

(34,358 posts)but it certainly should point that out.

(16,221 posts)He's 33 and never played the position. The Jaguars could have signed any of dozens of Nth string TEs at 2/3 the age with a near decade of experience between high school and college. This is all nepotism and hype, and has nothing to do with putting good football on the field.
It usually takes a good college TE 2-3 years in the NFL to reach their potential. Maybe Tebow might have made a good TE if he had started the conversion after he was drafted, but now he's already at the age where most player's physical skills start declining, and he will be 35 before we know for sure how good a TE he may have been.

(20,149 posts)The odds are stacked against him, just as they were in baseball. But I admire his pluckiness, even if I don't agree with the right-leaning and religious ways he carries himself.

(15,359 posts)He immediately kind of bows into praying mode to play the rubes. Bullshit act! It was so obvious.
He should have signed with the Jags in the first place. Where else would he have had a better opportunity to start and stick? They love him down there. That year with the Jets was a joke. I kind of think that's more reason to think he's a phony. He wanted to play in the big market. Bright lights big city. The toast of N.Y. if he got it going with the Jets. That may have been what I would have told him if I was his agent.
His throwing problems were totally mechanical. If he got set right, he usually threw a good ball. It's entirely possible a good QB coach can straighten him out.

(36,236 posts)This is the NFL, not Division I football where you have massive talent disparities. That guy that Tebow will have to block is a veteran defensive player who will destroy Tebow on his way to Lawrence.
There was talk of Meyer coming to the Jets if the Jets got the #1 pick. I'm slowly coming around to the idea that the Jets lucked out.

(69,750 posts)ESPN reported that his 40 time clocked at 4.83. Was discussed Friday on KJZ, Get Up, and First Take.
The average 40 time for NFL tight ends in 4.56. The average time for linebackers is 4.62.
Pretty sure it was Orlovsky that said there are 19 defensive ends faster than that.
So, he's too slow, has no experience at the position, spent his whole football life not blocking anyone, and he hasn't played football in 8 years.
That ought to work just fine.

He was a fraud as a QB in the NFL.
