Jon Rahm posted one of the great rounds in Memorial Tournament and PGA Tour history on Saturday. Everyone watched it go down on CBS and on the grounds at Muirfield Village Golf Club. But it won't go down in the record books, as it was all wiped out as he walked off the 18th green, where, in a dramatic and discomfiting scene, PGA Tour officials approached him and told him he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Rahm had to immediately withdraw from the tournament. The Tour quickly issued a statement on the positive test, clarifying the timeline throughout the week.

The sponsors of these morons should find someone with a brain to sponsor. Unless the whole bunch of the are Republican assholes.

(19,312 posts)Whether that means they're not all vaccinated..... who knows. Most of these guys grew up in wealthy families. You almost have to in order to afford the lessons, traveling, etc. they do, even as youngsters.
At that level it remains a rich person's sport.

(16,690 posts)If he had, he would not have been subjected to daily testing.
The Tour medical guy said that players are "north of 50%" on vaccinations.
He also said many of them are young and have only recently been eligible in their home towns.
I'd bet you there is no small percentage of "resistance" among the largely right wing players.
I must say, at this point, one would think the tour would be providing opportunities for people to get the J&J if nothing else.
And this incident may influence many of them since Rahm was almost guaranteed to win $1.6+ million.

(19,312 posts)One round to go, leading by 6 strokes, probably couldn't lose the tournament if he tried, and now tests positive for COVID. 😭
I'm of the opinion that they opened up the tournaments
to unlimited spectators too soon.
Speith tested positive a few weeks ago too. Other golfers have tested positive too, but not with 3 rounds finished in a tournament.
His mother and father are in the U.S. for the first time since the beginning of 2020, and they just met his new son for the first time. I don't know how this will affect their return to Spain, his baby son etc.
I really feel for the guy.

(23,752 posts)He could be a "useful idiot" in the battle to convince the reluctant to get vaccinated.
Or, if he refuses a press interview, does he risk being fined, like Naomi Osaka?
