Jones is now the starter.
ESPN reported that suitors for Newton are limited, heavily influenced by his refusal to get vaxxed. Unconfirmed number says only 2 Patriots were not yet vaxxed. When the starting QB is one of them, it seems quite problematic
But, another commentator made a strong case for Houston because it's so unlikely Watson will play for them this year.
Despite this, the unvaxxed status is giving them pause.

(186,499 posts)He played on a Bama team in which he almost couldnt fail. So much talent.
He held the ball a long time it seemed to me. Of course, with that line and those receivers he could.
Cam is a transcendent for the QB position. If he was on the Lombardi Packers he would have been the largest player on the team. Vick is a whole other story. I think hes last his edge. Hes worth $75M, hell be okay. BTW Cam won three national championships in college.

(69,750 posts)...he's got a very quick release (maybe he got coaching because what you say was correct), he processes information very quickly, (already knows the whole playbook), very accurate, & his teammates are both impressed and they like him.
That all seems a pretty good set of launch conditions.
We shall see.
But, Bellichek saw something in Brady that most others didn't. He was right about him. I think his judgment deserves latitude.

(20,148 posts)and I like Cam Newton (just not his decision not to get vaccinated).
But you're giving Belichick to much credit as a judge of young talent. Outside of Brady and a few others, he's a notoriously poor drafter. Hopefully Jones will be another exception.
ProfessorGAC
(69,750 posts)He's been a notoriously poor early round drafter.
He's had many picks 3rd round & lower that turned into solid, long career pros.
Particularly D line, O line, & linebackers.
Totally agree though that he whiffed on several first round picks.
One other thing I considered was McDaniel.
The offense evolved to maximize the strengths of Brady. McDaniel now knows exactly what skillset is ideal because they had the archetype for 20 years.
McDaniel may have had a lot of influence over this.

(20,148 posts)"He will find a home as a backup," an AFC exec said. "I don't doubt that at all. I could see Minnesota bringing him in. They need a QB, a No. 2. [Kellen] Mond isn't ready."
Dallas is a natural spot, with Cooper Rush the only quarterback on the current roster behind Dak Prescott. The Cowboys will at least look into this one. Newton obviously wouldn't be a threat to Prescott, who is due $160 million over the next four years. But while he was durable through his first four seasons, Prescott is coming off ankle and shoulder issues. Having a trusted veteran such as Newton isn't a bad thing.

(20,148 posts)And Tom Brady will come calling at Foxborough in Week 4. That will be a ratings bonanza!

(69,750 posts)So, I get his feelings on that. I'm sure he's not ready for retirement.
But, we're 9 days in & no noise from other teams.
We'll see what happens if somebody's starter gets hurt, I suppose.
