Washington State University has terminated the contract of WSU Cougars head football coach Nick Rolovich, as first reported by John Canzano of The Oregonian.
Rolovich, who is in his second season as Cougars head coach, has been at the center of controversy this year due to his decision to not receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Under a mandate by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Monday was the deadline for all public employees in the state to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Rolovich had said that he had applied for a religious exemption.
Rolovich is Washingtons highest-paid state employee, earning more than $3 million per year.
Canzano also reported that multiple unvaccinated Cougars assistant coaches, like Rolovich, have been terminated for cause.
